'House of Afi' birthed in 2019 is home to art, ritual, adornment and spiritual self-care. Offering herbal skincare, ritual candles, beaded jewellery and visual art by African creators based on the continent and diaspora.

Janina Nana Yaa Asiedu, our founder who was born and raised in Aotearoa New Zealand is a Queer Ghanaian herbalist, ancestral medium, artist and curator of shared space. 

Janina was led down the pathway of plant medicine through the passing down of gifts from their great grandmother, Maame Mintah . They have received mentorship from Rongoā Practitioner Joanne Hakaraia, participating in her Rongoā Mauri course in 2022 and Maurikura course in 2024.

Over the years they have facilitated workshops in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and Naarm (Melbourne) for Queer, Indigenous, Black and Brown community. Janina's envisions sharing and furthering their practice in Africa and within the diaspora.

Janina's practice extends to 'Nyame Dua The Altar' translating to Tree of God. Through this they offer Tarot Divination, Ancestral channelings and spiritual services such as space cleansing, libation ceremony and personal ritual.
