Ajé Olokun is the Yorùbá Òrìsà of the deep sea and mysteries and wealth that the ocean holds. They are known to be fluid between and beyond genders.

A devotional work honouring Olokun, alongside other west Africa divinties of the sea such as Osun (Yoruba Orisa of the rivers of life and fertility), Mami Wata (Ghana). The cowrie shell, once a primary currency across the African continent anchors the composition, reframing wealth as spiritual inheritance and drawing us back to more ancient means of currency and exchange. Abundance within the water has always belonged with and through us - through the life force and divinity that they and what they provide spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically.

Janina Nana Yaa Asiedu (they/them) is a Queer Ghanaian artist, Ritualist and Ancestral practitioner. Born in Aotearoa NZ and founder of Nyame Dua x House of Afi, they offer visual art, herbal skin-care, spiritual adornments and divination that guide the collective through the waters of Ancestral healing & intimacy.

Janina’s artwork embraces the use of vibrant tones to call the unseen to be seen - honouring African Divinities, Adinkra symbols and mystical forces of Nature. Their heart is most fulfilled when uplifting LGBTQIA+, African, Black and Brown community. Deeply inspired by Indigenous patterns, line work and naturally informed by their upbringing in Tāmaki Makaurau their art reflects their ancestral migration as tauiwi and the ongoing connection to whenua.
