A affirmation as a daily reminder of the importance of staying connected to the heart and soul. Containing two Adinkra symbols. 'Aya' (translating to 'it hurts' in Asante Twi) a symbol of the fern, which encourages us to persevere and continue to grow through hard times as our burdens get lighter under the warmth of the creator. The second Adinkra symbol included in this artwork is 'Odo nyera fie kwan' meaning Love always returns home. An encouragement that if we are led by our true heart's desires we will always find our way to joy, peace and stability.

Janina Nana Yaa Asiedu (they/them) is a Queer Ghanaian artist, herbalist and Ancestral practitioner born in Aotearoa New Zealand. Founder of House of Afi and Nyame Dua, they offer ceremonial skin-care, spiritual beaded adornments, divination and shared space that guides through the waters of Ancestral healing. Janina's drawings with the use of ink pen and coloured marker allow the unseen to be seen, honouring various African Divinities, Adinkra symbols and mystical forces of Nature. Their heart is most content when uplifting fellow Queer, African, Black and/or Brown creatives.
